Kalpataru is a socio-cultural organisation, founded by renowned Kathak Exponent Smt  Sangita Chatterjee. With varied other programmes for promoting Indian Classical art and heritage, Kalpataru also has a training wing where students are trained in Kathak by Sangita Chatterjee herself. The institute "Kalpataru performing arts institute" trains students in holistic approach aiming to bring out professionals in the field of Kathak.

Therefore it is certainly not a hobby class, however, there are few batches which are for adult beginners which aims for body fitness and to create a body-mind connection through this art form, as it is therapeutic.

Students do give exams every year through Prayag Sangeet Samiti and also get performing opportunities as and when they are ready for the stage through annual shows of the institute.
