This is a sit-down meal experience from a typical Tam Iyer household, when the entire clan meets up for festivals and other family functions. The mood is light and relaxed, there’s a lot of excitement about eating off a plantain leaf, often when youngsters wonder (aloud), if they will be able to manage a sambar or rasam (liquid) from running out of the elai (plantain leaf). This sets the tone, for a laughter and taste filled roller coaster. In gramams (villages) when there’s a small function at home, there’s always music and the aroma of jasmine in the air. Our idea is to recreate this ambiance. And yes, this is a strictly ‘no-watching your phone screen’ meal-time, simply because the best way to experience this meal is with your hands! They say, that when you eat with your hands, one engages with food in terms of texture, temperature or feel of food, the journey from one’s hand to mouth is a complete and engaging experience. It’s a totally mindful and relaxing way to enjoy food. Each item in this menu has a history and several interesting stories that I will be sharing with you!Welcome Drinks

Main Course

The serving of each item, on this menu is sequential, with repeats as much as required. The items are as follows;

  1. Thayir Pachadi - this is a Tam version of raita, prepared with curd, cucumber and at times tomatoes and lady’sfinger as well, tempered with mustard seeds and curry leaves

  2. Payasam – Is a milk and rice kheer, with dry fruits, cardamom and is served at the beginning of the meal, signaling sweet beginnings

  3. Masal Vadai – is a spiced-up lentil vada, which is a starter equivalent in a plantain meal. It’s crunchy, spicy and is a great nibble in between or before the main course starts

  5. Sambar – Is part of the main course and served with rice and other vegetable preparations

  6. Rasam – is also part of main course and is spicy, tangy with a good dose of tomato and pepper. Often, people love to drink rasam in a tumbler, to cleanse up their palate after a good round of the above items
