The REEL Leadership Cinema Programme is a series of screenings and discussions, preferably over a few weeks, centered around themes of leadership in cinema, developing an understanding for those themes and helping individuals and organizations integrate leadership qualities into their lives.

Immediately following the screenings, participants are required to engage in a leadership-focused discussion for approximately 90 minutes, to enable each one to evolve and discover their leadership model in due course.

A curated series of feature films are screened for participants with the purpose of illustrating a diversity of approaches to leadership; to explore and understand the dynamics of the leadership role viz. family, community, , colleagues, corporation and country

Almost all films screened are true stories, or adaptations based on true stories. Furthermore, every effort is made to include films in the programme from different cultures, preferably in English and with subtitles.

Each film serves as a case study to illustrate aspects of leadership and related issues including:

  • methodologies and styles,
  • dynamics viz. family, peers, administration
  • leader as non-conformist/rebel, innovator and maverick
  • addressing discrimination, disability, diversity, ethics, privilege, inequality, etc.

Furthermore, each film serves as a platform for engagement and discussion between participants, to share their observations and relate their experiences, enriching and enlightening each other in the process.

 DESIGN

  • The enjoyment and immersion in film as a cinematic experience is critical to the learning.
  • e-Notes are provided about each film and pointers given, to assist participants develop their leadership model.
  • Participants are encouraged to keep notes, maintain diaries with their observations which would help them in connecting films, finding patterns and joining the dots.
  • Participants are also encouraged to pose questions and/or share experiences (anonymously if required) to the participating group to address their issues, concerns that they have encountered and possibly find resolution.
  • Films screened are subsequently made available to participants to watch repeatedly on their own, in order to derive more from each viewing. However, the group screening must remain a shared cinematic experience.

TECHNICAL
