Mandana Art and Soul Weekend Workshop

Mandana is an ancient folk-art form of painting and expression, found on walls, courtyards and floor spaces of the mud houses in Western India.

In the floor Mandana, Panchmahabhuta-the five elements of nature are expressed in the geometrical and symbolic forms.

In the early time, it was used in many rituals and mystical sacred activities for the healing and cleaning of the soul.

The renowned Mandana grapher, Mr. Lakhi Chand Jain, will guide you all the way through the art of Mandana.

You will make Mandana installation in the midst of nature with the use of natural elements like small stones/pebbles, leaves, flowers, dry stems etc.

You will have the opportunity to take back home 2 Mandanas painted on the organic board/ eco-kraft paper which will be made by you during the workshop.

In this workshop, you will experience blissful moments, spiritual connection, the revival of inner energy and self-integration.

This art can give you access to your intuitive core, to find yourself.

It’ll be a memorable experience through which you’ll gain esoteric-spiritual knowledge and will renew your vital energy.

Lakhi Chand Jain is a Mumbai based Mandanagrapher and a scholar of the art of Mandana for the past 25 years.

He has been a recipient of 3 National awards and ‘Marudhara Samman’ (2016- 17) and is the first man to paint contemporary Mandanas on canvas using modern means.

He has given a new lease of life to the Mandana.

He learned Mandana when he was eight-year-old from his grandmother (late) Ratan bai and mother Smt. Shakuntala bai.

Around 14 years ago, ‘India Today’ had published a full-page story in the ‘Offtrack’ column on his work.

They stated that- “As Lakhi Chand Jain’s agile fingers trace an intricate pattern of white chalk across a red, earth-smeared background; traditional Rajasthani Mandana art comes alive, reminiscent of the designs on the walls and floors of rural houses in the Land of Kings.” This statement illustrates to us the depth of Lakhi Chand’s Mandana work. He himself is a highly spiritual person who derives his inspirations and ideas through meditation, glimpses of which can be seen in his each and every Mandana creations.
