Arth Dosh is a Hindi adaption of The Misunderstanding (French: Le Malentendu),  a play written in 1943 in occupied France by Albert Camus. It focuses on Camus’ idea of The Absurd.

A man who has been living overseas for many years returns home to find his sister and widowed mother are making a living by taking in lodgers and murdering them. Since neither his sister nor his mother recognize him, he becomes a lodger himself without revealing his identity.

The play revolves around the whole idea of attaining happiness and in order to attain that Maria and Mother are willing to perform any and every action. Where are they heading towards? They've been walking on a path with an open end where death is waiting as a companion for them. Can they excuse death because of their strong desires of touching a world which if far away from the one they are living in? Or the whole idea of attaining happiness an absurd lie?
