It's like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story.”

- Patrick Rothfuss

We are all building out of stories. Each of us is raised through stories and stories are what we tell each other. From the time immemorial, mankind has used stories to convey a certain thought or an incident either orally or through paintings or texts. It is almost impossible to deny the importance of stories in our lives.

A good story is not just a well composed, well-written piece of text. Instead, as Patrick Rothfuss says, it’s a reflection of oneself. It lets the listener not only empathize with the characters and situations in the plot but also the narrator itself. They live it through him as it starts to unfold. And if the artist himself has not lived it enough, he can not convey it to his audience or listeners honestly. A story that affects or has affected our own lives is more likely to affect others too.

A good storyteller is the one who is ready to be laughed at or mocked at and bare his soul completely for his audience to find a part of themselves in him. If you can’t be honest to yourself, you can not be to others as well. The most honest moment of life was your last dream. It is an imaginary world more believable than a real one. And it also lets you be whatever you wanted at that particular moment. A storyteller does exactly with his listeners.

Explore all of this and much more while understanding the art of storytelling. The workshop is designed for performers, corporate or anybody who would like to enhance their communication and presentation skills.

It's a 4-day workshop spread over two weekends.

Dates: 6th, 7th, 13th and 14th July 2019

Timings: 10 AM-2 PM

Fees: 4000/-

About the facilitator

Deevas Gupta is a poet, writer, actor and a storyteller. He has been attached with theatre and performing as a storyteller from 5 years. His most successful series has been the stories of Saadat Hasan Manto and has helped a lot of people acquiring storytelling skills and achieving better communication in personal/corporate lives through his workshops.

At the time when he was in a corporate job and working as a team leader and doing well for himself, reality struck him hard and he decided to quit his well-paying job and explored what he really liked doing, “writing” and theatre helped him with the same.

He wishes to do research on the Indian languages and spread it for people to understand it better. And he believes that theatre is the best place for the same. He strongly feels that more than religion, language is gradually becoming a greater divide among people and if we respect each others’ language, we happen to respect their culture too.

He believes theatre is essential for each one of us as it helps us develop into a better and more aware human being and make this world a much better place.
