Each one of us has our own insight into what constitutes good poetry. Workshops conducted by Abhivyakti, however, aim at the structural understanding of poetics, starting from the very basics. While we accept that creative expression is spontaneous, we also believe that poetry writing and its appreciation is a skill which can be acquired with learning and bettered with practice.
To be able to achieve this, we will approach poetry through newer perspectives in every session, of sound, rhythm, imagery, rhetoric, among other things.
We will together deconstruct poetry written by the most celebrated poets of past and present, and try and understand what makes their work timeless. While soaking in the sensuous words of Dylan and Tagore, we'll go a step further and inspect their craft. We will also look at what some of the most well known critics and literary theorists had to say about the journey of writing the perfect poem.
We will also get our hands dirty, attempting newer poems during the course of the workshops. Each of these poems will then be opened up for discussion and analysis so we can all learn to be good critics.
Participants are expected to carry a pen and a notebook, and no additional baggage.
