As you must be aware, Vishu is considered the New Year for Keralites and nearby diaspora communities in the month of April. The festival includes setting up colourful auspicious items (known as Vishu Kani) and viewing them the first thing on Vishu day. Additionally, the Saadya, a meal consisting of sweet, salt and sour items, is of prime importance. Some of the recipes, especially for Vishu, have been passed down through generations in our family and modified to suit different palates. The menu also includes traditional recipes that are a mix of both Kerala as well as Tamil Nadu. Yellow hues and use of different spices are the highlights of our Vishu Saadya. Here is an opportunity for you to be a part of this gathering comprising unique flavours, tastes and stories.
Food & Drinks:
· Kadalai Sundal
Steamed black chana mixed with some spices and curry leaves
· Kosmali
Coconut, green chillies and other spices are added to cooked chana dal, making the awesome karla paruppu kosmali.
· Paruppu
Plain tur daal supposed to be mixed with steamed rice and ghee.
· Mambazha Kootan
A seasonal speciality made with ripe mangoes and spices.
· Mor Kootan
A South Indian version of the evergreen Kadhi.
· Beans Usili
A combination of lentils and beans to give a flavoursome side dish.
· Idi Chakkai Poduthuval
Another seasonal delicacy cooked in the summer months comprising raw jackfruit, coconut, and green chillies. It pairs best with mambazha kootan and steamed rice.
· Rasam
· Kheer
Kheer is just what you need to end a sumptuous meal.
