Awaaz and A Writer’s Haven, in collaboration with Free the Verse, bring you a contest of poetry, zeal and brilliance with the Golden Slam!

We implore you to crack your knuckles and get ready for some serious finger clicking, because poetry is coming alive at Akshara Theatre on 25th May. 
Here you’ll find earnest faces, fingernails making dents in your palms, teeth chattering to an untamed battle of fierce slam poets, shooting as far as words can echo.
The winner opens for the brilliant, gut-wrenching performer, OLIVIA GATWOOD. 


RULES:
Guidelines for performers:
1. The performers are expected to submit a sample of their work through link above. It is NOT necessary to perform the submitted piece of work.
2. The submitted entry should be typed.
3. The performance has a time limit of 4 minutes. 
3. There are no language boundations. Your work can be in any language. 
4. The entry has to be the artist’s original work. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.
5. Registrations are open till the 20th of May. 20 poets will be curated.
6. The winner of the slam opens for Olivia Gatwood in Jaipur.

General guidelines:
As is customary for poetry slam competitions, the decisions will be in the hands of the audience.
To reach definite results, 5 people will be picked randomly from the audience. They will be the judges of the event.
Audience tickets are priced at Rs. 200/-. They can be purchased on the spot, or using the ‘tickets’ link which will be available shortly.

About OLIVIA GATWOOD
Olivia is a full-time touring artist, and has performed internationally at over two-hundred schools and universities. Online, her videos, including Manic Pixie Dream Girl and Ode to My Bitch Face have been appreciated throughout the globe.
Hailing from Albuquerque, New Mexico, she has been featured on HBO and Verses and Flow and is a recent graduate of Pratt Institute's fiction program. Olivia is co-founder of the feminist poetry show SPEAK LIKE A GIRL and is on her way to India this June!
