Crossborder Cinema: All About My Mother (1999)
Cinema is now more global than ever before, but with the predominance of American Hollywood films we're often tempted to think in terms of "Us and Them". But it's not like that at all.
The legacy of cinema is inescapably tied up in the history of imperialism, as well as the beginnings of modern anthropology; both film and anthropology were invented at the height, and towards the end, of imperialism.
So, we at Lahe Lahe are here with the fourth edition of our film-screening evenings introducing curated cinema as World Cinema provides a broad orientation to how cinema has grown around the world in wonderful diversity and challenging complexity. Watching films from different cultures requires an orientation that is absolutely necessary in our complex, multicultural and global environment. A selection of courses in world cinema at Lahe Lahe will take you closer to being a literate citizen of the world and also open up the exciting world of cinema across the globe.
