A genius was born on 10 August 1855, in Uniyara near Jaipur, to a well-known Dhrupad singer Ahmed Khan, the court singer at Uniyara. Trained under his uncle Jehangir Khan, young Alladiya Khan earned quite a reputation as a successful concert singer. It was at Amleta under the king's patronage, Khansaheb was compelled to satiate the king's insatiable desire to hear music and sing for long grueling hours. The magic of his voice would be gone forever. The tragedy however inspired Khansaheb to think of an ingenious way to present his art. There, a new style of Khayal Gayaki was born, which the world today admires as the Jaipur Atrauli Gharana. Khansaheb was known to have held and created a vast repertoire of Raags, especially of Jod-Raags and Anavat-Raags. The legacy of Khansaheb continues to this day through Pt. Rajshekhar Mansur, who inherited the tradition from his father Guru, PadmaVibhushan Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, the disciple of both Ustad Badruddin "Manji" Khan and Ustad Shamsuddin "Bhurji" Khan, the illustrious sons of Khansaheb.

In the 163rd birth year of Ustad Alladiya Khansaheb, disciples of Pt. Rajshekhar Mansur get together to offer a tribute to the great maestro and his rich legacy. Join us for an evening of rare and otherwise unsung Raags.
