Modern Mumbai | Walk through the 20th Century

Join us on this newly curated heritage walk by Alisha Sadikot as we walk through 20th century Mumbai. Beginning with the city improvements and development following the deadly Plague epidemic of the late 19th century, this walk highlights critical moments in the making of modern Mumbai. From the high of Art Deco to darker, largely untold histories of corruption, neglect and inefficiency, from the grating missed opportunity of Navi Mumbai to our ongoing romance with reclamation, this walk explores planning, architecture and roads not taken in the building of the city we experience today.

About the host: For Alisha Sadikot, it is the “Aha!” moment on the faces of participants in her walks that thrills her to bits. After completing her masters in Art History and working with the Asiatic Society, Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum and Bombay Heritage Walks, Alisha Sadikot is currently an independent museums and heritage professional working to instigate critical public engagement with museum collections and heritage spaces in Mumbai. Museums are her happy place.
