An intense and hard-hitting stage drama that relives the people, encounters and issues experienced by internationally acclaimed theatre and television artists Gopal Sharman and Jalabala Vaidya, through a decade of travelling and filming in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. Through heart-rending and incisive live enactments as well as extracts from documentary footage, Kashmir Stories introduces us to gun-toting militants in Sopore, a tough-talking Buddhist leader in Leh, a gardener in the Shalimar Gardens, a poet-musician singing by candle-light in a houseboat, children in a refugee camp in Jammu, hypocritical politicians and fearless journalists in Srinagar, embattled Rajputs in Bhadarwah, victims of police violence in Doda; soldiers, schoolchildren, housewives, farmers and nomads, and the poetry of  Nand Rishi, that make up the melting-pot that is Kashmir.

It gives a vivid and truthful insight into the issues that have led to the violence in the valley and the sorrow and tragedy that the violence has unleashed, all seen through the prism of artists’ eyes. Enacted onstage, supported by documentary footage and accompanied by haunting music – both live and recorded -- Kashmir Stories gives voice to the tragedy and beauty of Kashmir, with hope for a peace-filled future.

Adapted for the stage by Jalabala Vaidya  and performed by Jalabala Vaidya, Nisa Shetty, Dhruv Shetty, Neel Kamal, Surabhi Sahni, R.S. Raghu and others.
